The way we were
Day 106.
Today did NOT go as planned! What we thought was going to be a quick trip to the dentist for Jean Marie this morning turned into a 2 1/2 hour appointment with six extractions and an implant! Jean Marie is NOT her usual cheerful self right now! (Understandably so!)
So, it’s ice and pain meds for the rest of the night,, and I canceled our podcast taping for tomorrow. We sure don’t need anything extra piled on top of what she’s already dealing with!!
I’ve got to say. Genetics can sure mess up your health! We have EDS in our family; you may have heard about the many problems Ehlers Danlos Syndrome has caused us over the years. We have talked about it often on our show: https://bit.ly/3uTSEmV.
The latest and greatest hassle has been dental problems. We had several chipped and cracked teeth from intubation. I am now officially ‘toothless’ and waiting to heal up so I can get replacement chompers in the fall. Jean is getting implants to replace any of her original teeth that couldn’t be saved.
If you want to learn more about EDS and dental health, check out the website: EDS.ORG. My hiatal hernia has added to my dental woes. Each night while I sleep, hydrochloric acid would crawl up my throat, eroding my teeth and esophageal lining. I finally had this issue repaired last year. That was a ROUGH surgery! Jean hasn’t gotten to the point where she wants to have her hernias repaired.
Long blog, sorry I owe you a song….. why not a hit song from when Jean was born??? Barbara Streisand’s “The Way We Were” seems like it might fit for today! I’m going to take a listen while I’m filling ice bags. I hope y’all have a good night! -and don’t forget to floss and brush your teeth!
