Everything put together falls apart

Day 63 of blogging!

Nine days till our book launch!!! The excitement is building as we get closer and closer to the “big day,” and to ease the tension, I’m blogging… well, Paul Simon (unbeknownst to him) and I are blogging; somebody needs to tell him what a huge impact he’s had on my life!

Using another one of Paul’s songs as inspiration, tell me how it’s going over here. Today was a busy day; I think I was playing ‘catch up’ after spending a few days on ice packs after a tumble in the yard. We re-organized what used to be the ‘turtle room.’ After our little guy crossed the rainbow bridge, I sold MPs aquarium to a fellow Herpetologist. Now it’s going to be a craft room for Jean Marie’s dollhouse and my family tree project. We also went to an author presentation at the Downers Grove Library. (We needed ideas for when we start doing our own book-related presentations/signings/readings)

The song I chose for today is ‘Everything Put Together Falls Apart.”

This song says that life can be wrong and full of pain, but drugs are only going to make matters worse, and in the end, they might kill you. We should agree at the start; he’s talking about illicit drugs. Paraphernalia," as in drug paraphernalia, "never hides your broken bones," Paul explains. But rather than encouraging the audience to "get high on life" or perhaps find religion rather than turning to drugs-- he discusses, instead, the concept of entropy, as the title indicates, "everything put together sooner or later falls apart." Yes, everything... from planets to forests to elements.

Entropy: The Hidden Force That Complicates Life

Entropy, a measure of disorder, explains why life seems to get more, not less, complicated as time goes on.

***

“All things trend toward disorder. More specifically, the second law of thermodynamics states that “as one goes forward in time, the net entropy (degree of disorder) of any isolated or closed system will always increase (or at least stay the same).”

Entropy is simply a measure of disorder and affects all aspects of our daily lives. In fact, you can think of it as nature’s tax.

Left unchecked disorder increases over time. Energy disperses, and systems dissolve into chaos. The more disordered something is, the more entropic we consider it. In short, we can define entropy as a measure of the disorder of the universe, on both a macro and a microscopic level.

My life seems more in a state of disorder than ever! Change of ANY KIND messes up my head, causing my dementia symptoms to worsen. I am getting ready for the book launch, a significant change in my daily routine, starting Speech Therapy, back to the dentist for a new set of choppers. The first set of dentures looked like they were made for someone else or were made by someone who had once heard about what dentures are but had no practical experience making them! They don’t make contact with my gums, are out of proportion, and make it look like I’m wearing dentures over existing teeth. They are impossible to talk in, never mind trying to eat with them! A lot of expense with NO return…but a whole bushel full of stress, frustration, and disappointment! I’m now starting the entire denture process all over again. So, with all of this pent-up anxiety, I’m listening to Everything put together falls apart by Paul Simon.
