Patterns

Day 20 of “Blogging ‘till we Publish” using Paul Simon’s songs as my muse. I’ve chosen a different song of his every day and have compared/contrasted my feelings that day to the song I’ve picked.

The song “Patterns” talks about how man is constantly trying to make his way down a new path, making progress, and experiencing new and different circumstances. Still, in reality, he is only going around in circles and is trapped, continually facing the same choices, making the same mistakes, and allowing the same factors to govern his life.

Are our paths set in stone? Are we just following some pre-determined path over which we have no control, or are we the masters of our ship, able to adjust our course as the wind changes or the circumstances require? I like to think we have control. What do you think?
